Adventures In Service: Venturing To The Summit, Part 3

The Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve will allow Scouts to experience some of the best whitewater rafting in the country. In this episode, check out North Carolina Venturing Crews 32 and 44 as they take on the rapids of the New River Gorge. The Venturers also learned the basics of paddling, boat handling and safety from local West Virginia whitewater guides. The whitewater rafting followed a morning of fishing — also on the New River. Be sure to check out the Venturers hauling in plenty of small mouth bass in Part 2. And all this adventure was the reward for a day of service. The crews helped out the National Park Service by revegetating a high-traffic access point on the nearby Gauley River (also known for its fishing and world-class whitewater). The Summit is the new home of the BSA's national jamboree. We're getting ready for the 2013 National Jamboree. The Summit will also become BSA's fourth national high adventure base.
