Wegen meiner tollen Farben und den schillernden Flügeldecken glauben manche, ich komme aus dem tropischen Regenwald. Weit gefehlt. Ich bin mitten in Europa zuhause, aber auch in Asien lasse ich mich blicken. In Europa lebe ich am liebsten in oder in der Nähe von Fichtenwäldern. Obwohl es Fichten häufig gibt, werden mich die meisten von Euch nicht kennen, da ich zu der Entwicklung meiner Larven starkes Totholz von Fichten brauche und das gibt es in Wirtschaftswäldern kaum. So habe ich im Nationalpark Bayerischer Wald ein sicheres Rückzugsgebiet zu der Erhaltung meiner Art gefunden. Dort gibt es in den Naturzonen viele alte Fichten, die durch Borkenkäfer tödlich befallen werden. Wie sagt Ihr Menschen: Selten ein Schaden, wo nicht auch ein Nutzen ist. Deshalb unser Dank den Kollegen Borkenkäfern! An den Fichten schlüpfen unsere Larven aus den Eiern, die wir, dh die Weibchen unter uns, unter die Rindenschuppen kränkelnder oder toten Fichten abgelegt haben.
