NS “Exempt” line in Virginia Beach, VA

This is an ex-Southern line that runs from Norfolk to the ocean front in Virginia Beach, VA. It is about 13 miles long and hasn't seen a train since late fall of 2002. This line was used "as needed" in the day, and saw mostly rock/stone trains. Occasionally a boxcar or flatcar, or even a line of gondolas, but mostly hoppers. It went out of use when it's one customer on the line decided to transport product by truck, instead of train. Freight trains went about 10-15 mph along these tracks. The city wants to use this right-of-way as a light-rail transit line in the future. Half of the line in Norfolk is already under construction for the light-rail.
