Historic Jamestowne is the official name used for the original site of the 1607 James Fort and the later 17th century city of Jamestown. Watch as archeologists work the sand identifying temporary soldiers' shelters, row houses, wells, the storehouse, and the 1608 church. The reason the city acquired its name View from Richmond Hill in England. During the American Civil War, Richmond served as the capital of the Confederate States of America, and many important American Civil War landmarks remain in the city today, including the Virginia State Capitol and the White House of the Confederacy, among others. Richmond's economy is primarily driven by law, finance, and government with several notable legal and banking firms, as well as federal, state, and local governmental agencies, located in the downtown area. This is one of 12 cities in the US to be home to a Federal Reserve Bank. There are also 9 Fortune 500, and 13 Fortune 1000 companies in the city. Tourism is also important, as many historic sights are in or nearby the city. Patrick Henry delivering his, "Liberty or Death," speech at St. John's Church in Richmond, helping to ignite the American Revolution Museum of the Confederacy Its rich collection of civilian and military Civil War artifacts relating to the Confederate States of America, as well as the post-war "Lost Cause" era, is a valuable resource for the study of the role of the Confederacy in the War and in our society today. I know it is on our list of must read. We visited the annual October Sky Festival or the Rocket Boys Reunion as it is know up there in Coalwood West Virginia. For those that aren't familiar with this event, it is an annual reunion of folks from Coalwood , the folks from the movie October Sky, and the actual Rocket Boys themselves. Our visit includes segments of Homer Hickam signing autographs, Homer is the best selling Author of The Rocket Boys, later made into a movie by Joe Johnson called October Sky (the one with Jake Gyllenhaal and Laura Dern) also Scott Miles, who played Homer's (Jake's) older brother in the movie there were also NASA astronauts, Virginia Tech Students, children with rockets from all over and the townsfolk as well.
