The episode — part 2 in the series — follows Venturing Crews 32 and 44 from North Carolina as they cast their way down the New River Gorge fishing for smallmouth bass with the guides of West Virginia Experience. Their fishing adventure follows a day of hard work volunteering to revegetate a high-traffic access point on the Gauley River. Fishing on the New River Gorge can be the experience of a lifetime. The rocky sandstone riverbed and favorable water temperatures makes for incredible smallmouth bass habitat, and the fish are on during the entire year. Many of the fishing guides are New River Gorge natives, and they know the river as well as anyone ever could. The method most guides use to ply the river is, just as in the video. Be sure to check out Part 3 of this series, as some of the Venturers will take an even wilder ride down the same river — but this time taking on the whitewater rapids of the New River Gorge.

The lake is populated with inflatable toys that form towers, trampolines, slides and other amusements, including the Blob. In the Blob contest, one team member sits at the end of a 30-foot-long air-filled inflatable. The other team member leaps from a 10-foot tower, landing on the opposite end. The force of the drop launches the first team member through the air to a splash-down landing in the lake. In this episode, check out North Carolina Venturing Crews 32 and 44 as they take on the rapids of the New River Gorge. The Venturers also learned the basics of paddling, boat handling and safety from local West Virginia whitewater guides. The whitewater rafting followed a morning of fishing — also on the New River. Be sure to check out the Venturers hauling in plenty of small mouth bass in Part 2. And all this adventure was the reward for a day of service. The crews helped out the National Park Service by revegetating a high-traffic access point on the nearby Gauley River (also known for its fishing and world-class whitewater). The Summit is the new home of the BSA's national jamboree. We're getting ready for the 2013 National Jamboree. The Summit will also become BSA's fourth national high adventure base.
