www.floydfolks.org & http 1-540-808-2880 -floydlcfgroup@gmail - PO box 179 Floyd,Virginia ---- The Floyd Amateur Radio Society (FARS) www.floydamateurradiosociety.org and The Foundation for Amateur International Radio Service FAIRS http Demonstrated their amateur radio emergency communication abilities at the Floyd Harvest Fest 9-11-10 . The station N4USA located in the Village Green 8 &9 Floyd Virginia was used and a portable station was set up in a few hours outside was also used in the Special Event. Members of the FARS participating were Tom King W4VZH, Dee Wallace KG4VMI, Mike Finch KJ4SNT, Dennis Ross N6DR, Donna Johnson KF4HDX, Don Johnson KF4HDW, Gaynell Larsen KK4WWW and Dave Larsen KK4WWW. Many direct radio contacts were made in the USA and a few station in Europe were also contacted. FARS & FAIRS also displayed some of its emergency equipment - tractor with 25 kilowatt generator , 2 kilowatt generator, chain saw , portable radios and other item. A good size crowd came by to see the radios and operators in action and some new amateur radio operators in Floyd County joined the group---The Floyd County Homecoming and Harvest Festival, featuring the County Fair, was created as an extension of the celebration of the County's 175 years. The first year was deemed a success and the fifth year is here. The name has been shortened to the Floyd County Harvest Festival and County Fair but the purpose remains the same. Highway 50 to Fallon, Nevada!

Fallon is surrounded by wide open spaces, internationally known wetlands, historic Pony Express trails, state parks, hiking opportunities, and places to go off-road. Play outdoors for a while then come back into town for some indoor, Nevada-style fun, great dinner, shower, bed, then get up and do it again.
