For more of my photo tours, visit: historicpittsburgh.blogspot.com Wheeling, West Virginia has a wealth of pre-Civil War, Victorian, and Italianate architecture. I have tried to do justice to the beauty and elegance of this city, which has a disproportionate amount of substantial architecture for its small size. Many of the buildings photographed here date from the mid 19th century. The oldest buildings date from the 1820s-1830s.

We tackled the five BIG class 5+ whitewater rapids on this river October 16th 2010. This was the day after Bridge Day and the last day for this special stretch of whitewater! The Army Corps of Engineers opens Summersville Dam once a year and the river comes alive. This river runs down a huge drop in elevation over a short distance in feet which makes the Upper Gauley ranked in the top 10 rivers in the WORLD! They call it the "Beast of the East". Watch as we experience a wild ride on this amazing stretch of whitewater and these rapids: Insignificant Pillow Rock Lost Paddle Iron Ring and Sweet's Falls
