One of the most fascinating mining towns in the country, Virginia City's story is legendary. Home to the television show "Bonanza" and the Cartwrights it's true story is part of the old west. Anyone who was anyone went to Virginia City and in the 1870s, at the height of the Big Bonanza (as it was called) it was where fortunes were made.....by a few. If you're ever near Reno or Lake Tahoe be sure to take the time to visit Virginia City...where the old west still ives!

The weather in Ocean City is warm and inviting, the ocean and white sand beaches sparkling. Boardwalk trams can take you the whole length of the boardwalk, which travels from the Inlet to the North Booth at 27th Street. Angler Party Boat Assateague Explorer - boat ride Cruise by Assateague Lighthouse and you can see bald eagles, dolphin and places wild ponies live. In 1869, businessman Isaac Coffin built the first beach-front cottage to receive paying guests. Prior to 1870, what is now Ocean City was known as "The Ladies' Resort to the Ocean." The Atlantic Hotel, the first major hotel in the town, opened July 4, 1875. The Ocean City Inlet was formed during a major hurricane in 1933, which also destroyed the train tracks across the Sinepuxent Bay. The inlet separated what is now Ocean City from Assateague Island. In 1952, with the completion of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, Ocean City became easily accessible to people in the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area. In 2002, Ocean City undertook the most recent of many, multi-million dollar, beach restoration programs, in an attempt to slow the westward migration of its beaches. The program pumped tons of sand from offshore and deposited it onto the beach. Ocean City now extends just over 9 miles (~15 km) from the southern inlet to the Delaware line. This is an example of how easy it would be for a beginner to make a fatal mistake. Violets are rich in vitamins A & C. They could be used to help prevent Scurvy. Larkspur on the other hand could bring an abrupt end to your bushcraft days. Always double check your Guide books & if in doubt leave it out.

I wanted to address the fact that we are losing our elders at an alarming rate. most of what I have learned about the woods I learned from "Old Timers" these men rememberd things like the great depression and lived of the land to get by. Spend some time with these people while we have them & you'll learn more about life than you could ever imagine. Most of them feel forgotten and are wasting away in rest homes. Please do yourself a favor and find an Old Timer to visit with.
