I’m sure every County in Each of the States in American have a Cooporative Extension Office for that County. In a web Search Engine, type in the name of your County plus Cooperative Extension.
It they do not have a good website, call the office by phone and ask for help. They are a Governmental agency and quite often have a lot of free printed material to help you.
Usually a local “garden nursery” have staff that should be able to answer your questions. Clerks in Home Depot and Lowe’s seldom do not have this information.
Go to your local bookstore and look at books on plants and landscaping in your area. Take a notebook and write down information.
Or go to your local libaray. Check out the Gardening Section but look for books that are written specifically for your State.
Scan the magazines in your local LARGE grocery store, you may find magazines on sale for flowers in your State. Many big magazine companies have editions written for various areas of the U.S. You can tell by the title if it is just for the Pacific NW or Florida or West Virginia.
Look in your local newspaper for a “garden” club or something that would be a group of people interested in Gardening. Call them and ask them for ways to get information
Good Luck, I know you’ll be successful. I recently moved from Seattle, Washington to tropical Florida and had to go through this same process. Not all plants are created equal. Soil, weather, temperatures, bugs, .. they are very different from State to State… even elevation makes a difference.
